The Magic of Porcelain Veneers

    Today I wanted to write about porcelain veneers, what they are, and how they can transform your current smile into a dazzling asset that you can share with all those around you.

First things first...what is a veneer? Veneers are an incredibly thin layer of pressed porcelain that are placed on the front of your existing teeth. Some of my patients like to think of it as similar to when you veneer your cabinets at home. You don't rebuild the whole cabinet but you add a new facing to it to make it look more beautiful. Today's porcelain veneers can be as thin as a contact lens!

"Can something that thin make a difference to my teeth?" Amazingly, yes! Even though they are incredibly thin, they can essentially make your teeth look perfect.

"I have chipped, stained and crowded teeth, how much of that can be fixed with veneers?" Believe it or not, all of it can be fixed with porcelain veneers! We can completely control the size, shape, color, and alignment of your teeth. All with that thin layer of porcelain! We use expert technicians who are masters at creating veneers that will work together to form a perfect smile.

Let's look at one simple case. This is my dental assistant Bethany. She was a patient at our office before she came to work with us. She was unhappy because she had been born with "peg laterals". This is where some of your front teeth look like baby teeth. She had them repaired with a filling material in the past but you can see that they don't look natural.

With the use of teeth whitening and porcelain veneers on the front four teeth, we were able to give her a beautiful smile that looks natural. We have patients tell us all the time that they want teeth like Bethany's but have no idea that they are actually veneers.
